Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his way up to the stage

amid drum beats,cymbals clashing, wild applause and chants

of "Modi, Modi" at theAllphones Arena in Sydney's Olympic Park.

About 16,000 people attendedthe event,organised by members of

the Indian-Australian community.

Outside the Allphones arena, there is Indian food, people in Modi masks, drummers and dancers. About 5,000 people who could not get tickets to the show inside, will watched Mr Modi speak on big screens outside the venue.

PM Modi, who is the first Indian prime minister to visit Australia in 28 years, will be in Sydney for six hours.

It’s his second big international meeting with the Indian diaspora afterhis speech at New York’s Madison Square Garden in September.

This morning hundreds of supporters arrived on an overnight train from Melbourne, dubbed the 'Modi Express'.The group emerged from the train at around 7am, singing and dancing while wearing t-shirts with Mr Modi's face on them.“We didn’t sleep," one passenger told SBS. "All night we were excited. We were dancing and singing."“We are here to listen to our beloved Prime Minister speak," another passenger said. "We love him. We just love him!"

For many Indians, Mr Modi represents hope for change after years of disillusionment over government corruption.

“He’s very transformational," said passenger, Bhupender Singh. "He’s very honest, and he’s very selfless." 

"Modi fever grips Sydney," the Canberra Times said in a headline on Sunday. "The city will get a dose of Modi-mania when the Indian Prime Minister makes a quick-fire, high-energy visit," the newspaper said in a report in its online edition.

Following are the highlights of his speech:

• These incredible scenes and this massive reception in Sydney will galvanise India.
• I dedicate this honour, this welcome to 125 crore Indians!
• I am fortunate that I am the first Indian PM who was born in independent India...so I feel greater responsibility..
• Not every one has the god fortune of dying for the country, but we can all live for Mother India!!
• You can take off from India at night and reach Australia the next morning. But it took the Indian PM 28 years to reach Australia. I promise you will never need to wait that long again!! (In his usual poetic style!)
• Sydney is a beautiful city, Australia is a beautiful country. Both India and Australia can't live without cricket.. NaMo even gave a record of Anglo-Indian Achievements in representing Australia in International Sportings Events such as the Olympics.
• Mother India has 250 crore arms, 200 crore of those arms are younger than 35. It's the youth of India who can help us fulfil our potential
• They have dreams, they are full of energy, they have the capacity to etch things in stone
• Do you believe that India will be strong once again? I see no reason for our country to remain backward
• Elections were held in India but I know that you were connected to it minute-by-minute

• I want to work for the little guy...the common man...to do big things for "small people."  That is my focus.
• I told the RBI they have to move faster to ensure a bank account for every family. Now can anyone say "No" to the PM? In the last 10 weeks, 71 million bank accounts have already opened. Same leaders, same office, same habits, same people - but the work got done, didn't it?
• If citizens of India decide to, then we can clean up the image of India that the world has - we can meet this challenge.
• Cleaning up...removing litter...this is not a job that lacks dignity...this is a job that must be respected.
• I have always admired the concept of dignity of labour in Australia. Here, a research scientist can also drive a cab. ( And I think, he is so right for saying that! One thing we should definitely take away from Australian is the equal respect given to the Doctor and Scavenger! :D )
• Does it look like a working day with so much people gathered over here?! Nobody would say so! :D
