pyrotechnics
noun
7 PM and we were headed to the fireworks show at Bras D'eau. (Videos attached below :) P.S. This is very much Mauritius! :D :D :D)
There was a huge traffic jam- more like it was a concert of some renowned super star taking place.
We just got to the beach: Tonnes of vehicles on the Public Beach, more like an FBI Invasion or something. Everyone as equipped with torches. But surprisingly, everything was cool, calm and chilly. There was this laser show, green stokes of light being projected in the void. There was this one hour delay in the show, and one could see white shots being pulsated into the sky as trials.
It was a nice summer evening, but a cool and very breezy one at that.
It was a moonless night.
Blazing. Loud. Beautiful. Firey. Colorful. Glowing. Radiating. Scorching. Roaring. Blistering. Mighty. Intense. Brilliant. Words that gained more momentum in that moment. Sure, I have seen such a display 2 years ago, but to have one on our Island, drove the moment to one of pride.
Each element has a specific electron configuration, causing each to have a distinctive color when exposed to fire.
Fireworks: Pow, boom, crackle, bang, flash, pop!
SnapCrowd: ooh, ahhWick!! Wooouuuhhh!!
Firework Going Up, further: zoom, whoosh, swoosh!!
It was the kind of brightness that sears into your retinas making you open them more with a desire to reach them; a brightness that would make fresh snow look grey and dull!
We were on the beach like blind bats- mostly because we had no idea where to grab the chicken we had packed in polystyrene containers from home. We were wrapped from head to toe with warm clothes. Had it not been for the poor sources of car head lights, we would probably just have kept bumping into one another.
Next to us, was a bunch of Algerian Tourists and many other foreigners. Those Algerians in particular must have thought that they would have got food on the beach, but obviously this is Mauritius and despite having the most beauteous beaches, we lack these type of night- beach agglomerations, community parties in the beach and Bon fires with friends. So, there was no filthy way they could have gotten themselves to be fed! :/
Around us, people sitting on the sand, waiting with excited. Some are placing their tripods neatly on the sand others have their cameras held up towards the sky, preparing for the show.
There's a lot of people. A bunch of people have got loudspeakers with blasting Bollywood Songs.
We literally are into the water. Some have got their feet in the water, others are sitting on the massive stretch of rocks that Poste Lafayette is known for. We rarely have such events on our island. Mauritius is not very famous for its night life. At all actually. And to have suddenly everyone here on the beach trying to come grapple some visual pleasure and fondle into the playful atmosphere seemed like a signal to me that Mauritians might probably be ready for such more upcoming events.
Sure, it was a family event, and there was the spicy savour of Briyani floating around together with the succulent sight of beach barbecues. The only hurdle: No lights. But very soon we knew that we would be under pulverizing-parachutes of bright colours above our own heads.
Soon, a red plume of fire exploded into the blackness and my cousins and I were caught off guard from our selfie moments.
Rockets, squibs, sprinklers, Catherine wheels, Bangers! All were on the menu!

A dance of colors,
Reveling merrily,
They gazed down at me,
Shooting across the sky,
Illuminating the night,
I'd been set free,
Rippling across the ocean of the dark,
Like a water drop hitting the surface of the sea,
Generating waves, causing tremors,
Firework beauty...
Such they were..
What's more is that there was the sea down, reflecting the halos of the fireworks! Sheer paranormality! :P
Each country presented a 20 minute non-stop show.
It was fun watching the pops of colours in the dark sky, smearing it in its own taste of folkloric songs, notably those of the World Cup.
